DCE students excel in foreign land
It seems that a challenge to achieve something always bring out the best among the students of the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE). The 13 third and final-year students of mechanical engineering department at the DCE, following on the footsteps of predecessors were recently at Pretoria, South Africa to participate in ''Mini Baja'', an All-Terrain Vehicle design contest organised by Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) International.
The team ''Resistance'', which participated in ''Mini Baja 2004 saw participation from 40 teams from USA, UK, Germany, Brazil, and Mexico would participate in the event.
A team member of ''Resistance'', Arnav Anand said: "The aim of the competition was to design and build a prototype of a single seat All-Terrain Vehicle or ATV. This ATV can be used by army personnel, agriculturist and motor sports enthusiasts to negotiate all terrains consisting of swamps, rocky areas, hills, shallow water, logs, steep incline, and mud."
Maintaining the right balance between the grilling academic curriculum and the project was never an easy task for these 13 students. According to another team member, Tanweer Anwar, "There were times when we felt of quitting the project owing to the paucity of funds. The journey was long, however, our efforts started bearing results when we got a sponsorship from Maruti. Since then, it has been an untiring effort from our side to make our dreams a living reality."
The ''Resistance'' team was placed at the 19th position out of 40 participating teams. The ATV was nominated in the ''Best Improved Car'' category too.
